There are many low budget hotels in Chulia St, Penang especially caterring for backpackers or to those who do not mind very basic lodging. To my surprise, most of them are pretty clean and in one instance, I saw a promotional message "RM15/nite, b/fast included". Voila, its cheaper than home!!
Many more of these hotels are mushrooming in Chulia St and scenes like the above are not uncommon even during the economic slowdown
